SPECIAL EDITION Lino cut Print with Fish

SPECIAL EDITION

This lino cut print with koi is an original artwork, letterpress printed using a Vandercook printing press. It includes a small line of type printed in the corner that reads "She longed to swim in the green of his eyes." Type is letterpress-printed using hand-set metal type.

This is a 3-color reduction linoleum block print, printed on acid-free Mohawk 100# cover weight paper. Image size is 8" x 10" and paper size is approximately 11" x 13". Limited edition of 21. Each print is signed and numbered. Because this is a reduction print, it can never be reproduced, since the printing block was destroyed in the process of carving for printing multiple colors.

Block printing is a laborious process, but one that I love. It begins by transferring or drawing an image directly onto the linoleum block, and then carving away the image. To print three colors, more and more of the block is carved away before inking up the block and printing it on the press. By the end, only a minimal amount of the image is left on the carved block, so it can never be reprinted.
